Deals with grounds and procedures for civil law actions based on a violation of a legal duty or standard of care, usually resulting in an accident of some sort, although civil suits stemming from intentional (even criminal) acts are also included. In the common law systems actions may be referred to as "torts," and in civil law systems as legal actions based on civil responsibility or for non-contractual damages.
