Tagged Image Format, TIFF (.tif, .tiff) defined in
RFC 3302 . A proprietary file format used for still-image and line-art bitmaps, stored in tagged fields. It was originally crated by Aldus (now under control of Adobe Systems) and is widely supported by image-manipulation applications, publishing and page layout applications, scanning, faxing, word processing, and OCR applications. TIFF has not had a major update since 1992.
