DWS Refugee Services
The State of Utah Refugee Services Office coordinates services for refugees in the state. Mission of the Office is the effective integration of refugees. All existing state, county and private-service providers are being asked to make a "good faith effort" to hold themselves accountable for the successful delivery of services to refugees throughout the state. Each government entity dealing with refugees is to report back to the new state office the steps they intend to take.
The Refugee Services Office was created November 2007 as a recommendation of the Refugee Working Group, convened by Governor Jon M. Huntsman Jr. and Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon. It began functioning in January 2008 as a clearinghouse of information for the refugees currently living in Utah and specifically for newly arrived refugees. This office, residing within the Department of Workforce Services, provides leadership in service coordination, policy review, accountability, advocacy and resource development and management for essential services to refugees in the State of Utah.
