Elk Farming and Elk Hunting Parks

Elk Farming and Elk Hunting Parks
The purpose of the program is to regulate the domestic Elk livestock industry with an emphasis on protecting our wild elk population. To accomplish this the Department has 25 elk farms and 11 hunting parks licensed with a total of 2,873 domestic elk on inventory as of 2014. The majority of the animals are sold to hunting parks as trophy animals or sent to packing plants for processing of a “leaner” meat product.
The Utah Legislature joined many other states in 1997 by passing the Domesticated Elk Act and thereby creating a domestic elk industry in the state.
