environmental accounting

environmental accounting
Environmental accounting is the global effort to modify national accounting systems to account for the economic role played by the natural environment. National accounts are the economic data systems used to calculate familiar macroeconomic indicators such as gross national product (GNP), gross domestic product (GDP), savings rates, and income per capita. They are built and maintained by governments, following standard accounting practices defined largely through an international process coordinated by the United Nations.
