Gender issues relate to all aspects of women’s and men’s lives, their different opportunities, and access to resources and needs. The distinction between gender and sex needs to be made as these two words have often been wrongly used synonymously. Sex refers to biological differences between women and men. Sex characteristics are universal and are unchangeable. Gender is a social construction and categorisation of differences between the sexes and social relationships between women and men.
