The International Criminal Tribunal is empowered to prosecute persons responsible for serious violations of international humanitarian law on a defined territory (e.g. the “International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia”, the “International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda”). Not to be confused with the “International Criminal Court” or the “International Court of Justice”.
