In logic, the quality of being founded on truth, fact, or law or the attribute of an argument that conforms with logical laws -- in common usage, the extent to which something does what it is used or intended to do (Note: Use "Test Validity" for validity of tests, inventories, scales, etc. -- prior to Mar80, this term was not scoped)
