Glossary about Controlled Vocabularies

qualifier

qualifier
A word or phrase used to distinguish a term in a vocabulary from otherwise identical terms that have different meanings. A qualifier is separated from the term, generally displayed within parentheses. It is also called a gloss, although strictly speaking a qualifier should be used only with homographs, and a gloss has a more general meaning in the field of linguistics.
