A word or phrase occurring in the natural language of a document that is considered significant for retrieval.
In addition to the above preferred meaning this word is
also used loosely with the following two other possible
meanings, which are often confused. The use of "keyword"
with these meanings should be avoided.
- A preferred term from a controlled vocabulary, assigned to a document
- An identifier.
