Knowledge, capabilities, and practices related to
aero/aerothermodynamic design for aerospace vehicles and
components under various flight conditions including
liftoff, ascent, stage separation and reentry. Ability to
plan, conduct and interpret results of experimental
investigations and analytical/computational fluid dynamics
to derive aerothermal environments. Inherent within this
competency is also the ability to determine the effects of
propulsion system plumes on the vehicle/components
performance and environment. Knowledge of high temperature
gas physics including molecular and atomic internal energy
structure, rate processes, and radiative emission
characteristics.
