The Division of Wildlife Resources' Wildlife Board is a seven member board appointed by the governor for six year terms. The director of the Division of Wildlife Resources acts as secretary to the board but is not a voting member of the board. The Board has no statutory mission. Board members are required to have expertise or experience in at least one of the following areas: wildlife management or biology; habitat management, including range or aquatic; business, including knowledge of private land issues; and economics, including knowledge of recreational wildlife uses. Each of the areas of expertise is represented by at least one member of the Wildlife Board (Utah Code 23-14-2). To serve on the Board you need to have a strong interest in Utah's wildlife and wildlife management in the state and be committed to serving and representing the people of Utah. Members attend six to seven board meetings in Salt Lake City each year and are encouaged to attend monthly RAC meetings in their regions. Some overnight travel is required.

Board members are selected by the Governor, with the consent of the Senate, from a list of nominees submitted by the Wildlife Board Nominating Committee. Every wildlife region has to have at least one representative on the Board and no more than two members can be from a single region. Members serving from the same region have staggered terms. Members serve six year terms and one-third of the board is appointed every two years. Members may serve only one term unless their initial term was less than four years.
