Federal Agency Annual Reports

Federal Agency Annual Reports
Collection within U.S. Federal Publications collection.

An "annual report" is the legislatively mandated or "required annual report" that federal government agencies are required to submit each year or every other year to Congress and/or the President. They may be identified as biannual or biennial reports.

The annual report functions as the official publication of the agency's preceding year's activities. Its contents include the major goals and accomplishments that the department achieved, an illustration of each division's activities, and an outline of future prospects and projects. Some, but not all, contain a budget and disbursement schedule.

In the Digital Library, the metadata record for each annual report should have the Type values of "Report" and "Annual Report." All other federal government reports compiled on an annual basis are cataloged simply as "Report" in the Digital Library.
