The Office of Crime Victim Reparations became the Utah Office for Victims of Crime on July 1, 2011. When Crime Victim Reparations was established in 1986, the primary function was to provide financial assistance to victims of violent crime. Over the years, CVR has taken on additional functions and has two primary programs with the office: the Victim Reparations Program and the Grant Administration Program. The name change will more appropriately reflect the expanded role the office is providing such as the grant assistance program which administers the VOCA, VAWA and SASP grants, providing staffing assistance to the Utah Council on Victims of Crime, coordination of statewide training and administration of the statewide notification system VINE.
